My dear,
For the love of god, please stop trying to do hard things!
I know, Glennon Doyle says “we can do hard things” and all the memes and coaches and religions out there tell us about the importance of hard work.
But you gotta understand, for most of us ADHD women, BASIC THINGS ARE HARD.
Laundry is HARD.
Tedious administrative projects are HARD.
Keeping up with the clutter at home is HARD.
Keeping track of your kids' homework is HARD.
Getting meals on the table is HARD.
“Wait,” you may be thinking.
“If hard work builds character, and REVEALS good character, shouldn’t we be doing those hard things?”
Isn’t that what you do if you’re
- a good girl
- a true adult
- a responsible person
- in integrity
- following God’s will
- a real woman
- a good mother
- nice
- well-liked
- approved of
- a winner
I say NO.
👉 Beloved friend, for the love of God, stop trying to be a fish when you’re a bird. 👈

If you suck at laundry, *stop working hard at laundry*.
If you hate tedious work projects, *stop doing them.*
If looking over your kids homework is so dull you want to scream, *don’t do it.*
Stop trying to get better at nibbling seaweed, riding currents, swimming!!!
Instead, work on getting EVEN better at making nests, pulling worms, and flying.
I know, I know—
“But if I don’t do the laundry, how will it get done?”
“But I’m the only one who can do this tedious project at work.”
“But my kid really needs homework support.”
If you truly cannot think of ANY WAY around those logistical problems, you may in fact end up having to do some of those fishy tasks for now.
Fine. But keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to offload them.
And never forget that your job, in this life, is to delight in doing the work you were made for.
Don’t waste your birdy wings doing hard, fishy labor that doesn’t suit you.
Use them to soar ecstatically into the high blue vault of the sky.
Fly free, my love. ❤️
And if you can’t figure out how to soar, call me.
Book a Discovery Call right here.
Warmly,
Emma
